Partnerships for Success
In April of 2007, President of Rhode Island School of Design, Dr. Roger Mandle, in his role as the chairman of the Rhode Island Campus Compact and as a member of the Rhode Island Independent Higher Education Association, presented an overview of some of the partnerships between colleges and public schools to the Governor's PK-16 Council. As a result of the presentation, a proposal was submitted to the Rhode Island Foundation and the Rhode Island Commodores for funding in the spring of 2007 in order to systematically document the collaborative relationships between higher education and PK-12 districts and to discover and develop partnership models that can be shared and replicated across the state. In December of 2007, a comprehensive two-part survey was sent to representatives of each of Rhode Island's public and private colleges and universities. Partnerships for Success: College and PK-12 Activities and Opportunities across the State, the preliminary report presented to the Council on March 7, 2008, represents an initial summary of the findings. A more detailed report will be presented to the Governor's PK-16 Council on June 6, 2008.
